Portion Control Reality Check

Some one emailed this link to a youtube clip. If you count calories, points or measure your food as a part of your diet and or portion control....its definitely worth watching!!

My only problem with this demo is that they are comparing a 1/2 or 1/3 cup measuring cup to grams...of course they aren't the same, they are close but not the same.

1/3 cup equals 43 grams, if you were to level an accurate 1/3 of a cup you'd only be over by 3 grams....

You can't tell what size measuring cup she is using....but I do get the point!

  1. the jest of that is great but I like you.. just really prefer the actual stuff... you know a cup, a teaspoon ect... learning the actual portion sizes is a very hard thing to accept .. and it takes a while to learn that is why I go for less calorie dense food and more water rich foods.. like fresh veggies and fruits.. if I can not have a decent portion I would rather skip it... I guess u could call me the bargian shopper of calories LOL

  2. Everywhere people always say to use a TRUE measuring cup or a TRUE TBSP.etc. NOT going over the rim a bunch.
If I was scooping up that one cup of oats that she did I WOULD KNOW that there were extra calories on there.
    How could you not?
It's not that it's over the RIM and we are unaware of it...we are AWARE of putting it over the rim but think we are being SNEAKY that it won't add up.
The real key to me here is NOT that the food is over the rim but the reason WHY we would let it be over the rim and TELL ourselves that it's a "ONE CUP" portion! etc.
We only end up hurting ourselves in the end- we are not cheating anyone just ourself by doing that!
Just love also that she has a sign that says (HEY FATTY)- my first thought was HEY STONER - or hey heavily medicated by her eyes.

  3. Interesting video, thanks for sharing. That peanut butter looked nasty though!

  4. Maybe it's just me, or maybe I'm not the "average" person but I don't measure things like that. If I'm doing something dry I at the very least LEVEL IT OFF. No "slightly above the rim" for me.

  5. intersting...I have the same issue with what you said.

I think its important people properly measure their foods because yes, the point is that they can eat more tahn they think they are if they dont. But measuring anything is better than not measuring.

  6. I have to agree with bionicmommyandwife, but I have one other comment too. All nutrition labels are not accurate, the companies are allowed to round the calories of the serving size. Technically speaking, her calculations in the video are probably off due to this small fact.

  7. Oh how I used to try to cheat the system - it never works though! Like others have said, you really are only cheating yourself - if you want to eat more then suck it up and eat more but at least be true to yourself.

The sneaky mentality really messed with my head for a while. I think I've decided that healthy and honest is better than hot and sexy??

  9. So I'm about a year behind, but this video really sort of upset me. I dislike being addressed (even generally) as "Hey Fatty". Also, the implication that fat people are obviously so stupid they can't figure out there might be extra calories in extra food ... it makes me grind my teeth.
