Do you ever get a song stuck in your head? You keep hearing the words, the music and singing along, sometimes in your head, sometimes out loud or by humming along. It happens to me quite often but thankfully the songs of the ice cream man have been replaced in my head.
When I was 17 my Mom made my brother and I go to a psychic she had been to. She really wanted my brother to go because this psychic saw a male that was close to her with a name starting with the letter “J” going to prison. My mom immediately thought of my brother whose name started with “J” then of course she did what every Mom would do...she freaked out completely and called my brother to come over to her house where she lectured him on responsibility and told him what the psychic had seen. My brother did many things that made our Mom's head spin but illegal wasn’t in the mix. To appease her, and to make her stop yelling at him, he agreed to go to talk to the psychic and since I was home from college for the weekend, I ended up going with him.
I went in a complete skeptic and left a complete skeptic but looking back, she had a few things right. She didn't have a crystal ball, she didn't wear a gypsy outfit or burn a lot of candles and incense. She made sure we were Christians before she invited us into her home. So how did it all work? She simply held something that belonged to you and started talking randomly, later she answered specific questions. I'll admit, she did amaze me with a few things. She knew my crush by his name, right down to the blue sweater he always wore with a hole in it. I was living in a college dorm by then and she said she saw me working in a room with no windows but could hear a piano in the background…I worked for the head of the music department designing posters for upcoming concerts in a small windowless room, I reasoned that my Mom could have told her that part but how did she know about my crush that no one knew about?
I wish I had a written record or a recording of the things she told me back then but a few things about my future stand out in my mind. She said I’d marry when I was a bit older (I was 33) he would be some kind of engineer but it was a different kind of engineer and she got a confused look on her face. This was 1984 and before computers were in every home, Ken’s job title was computer engineer for many years, looking back, I think the whole concept of computers caused the look of confusion. There were many other things including an accident I'd have in red car and a few other odds and ends that ended up coming true. She also mentioned I’d have two children, twins …unless you count Sadie and Max as my twins, she got that one wrong.
Incidentally, the “J” in question thankfully wasn’t my brother but unfortunately ended up being my uncle whose name also started with “J” Of course Mom never thought of her brother, the fine upstanding man that was so perfect in her eyes.
So what does the song stuck in my head have to do with a psychic woman? One of the other things that stands out vividly in my mind was when she attempted to read my palm. I was 17 years old and she told me I had the worry lines of an old woman, she told me that I took the burdens of the world on my shoulders. She was right, I was a worrier then and I'm still a worrier. My Mom would tell me that no one else in the family needed to worry because I worried enough for everyone. Let’s hope Ken doesn’t read this entry, he is forever telling me to relax.
So do I believe that some people are gifted psychics? Honestly I think 99% of the people who call themselves psychic are full of crap. If I had a chance to see that woman again I'd go in a heartbeat just to see what she had to say. I went back to that house to find her a few years later but she had moved on. I don't even remember her name and I've only seen one other psychic since then when a friend asked me to go with her. I think some people can see things while others are lucky guessers. There are times when the messages come from our own heads and in my case, in the form of a song.
Today’s song that’s stuck in my head is a message I need to take to heart. It also happens to be one of our favorite songs. Three Little Birds by Bob Marley
don’t worry about a thing
cause every little thing
gonna be alright…
I think Bob wrote this song just for me, Thank you Bob Marley, I need to have this song stuck in my head today.
I count Sadie and Max! Great post!

I only remember that because it is so kind of, well, ICKY.

Nice song with great lyrics! And I'm with Nan: Sadie and Max count!
ReplyDelete"Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own." =) Glad you found some peace of mind today!
ReplyDeleteI have that song stuck in my head now. :) But I dig that song, so it's cool.
ReplyDeleteI love that song! I'm a music lover and find that there are songs for every mood.
ReplyDeletehmm well Sadie and Max come from the same litter so .. they are twins in a doggie sort of way... like the song too..
ReplyDeletethat is a really neat story. sounds like she got some things right. I love that song!
ReplyDelete(saw your comment yesterday---you frustrated? email me!)
ReplyDeleteI am a believer but like you I agree that about 99% are quacks. I believe in Sylvia Browne and want to get a reading with her son at some point. I can't afford her anymore. Heck, her son charges $500.
ReplyDeleteSadie and Max do count. She didn't say that you would give birth to twins but that you would have twins :)
My mom had a similar experience with a psychic years ago who scribbled a bunch of stuff on a piece of paper. Unfortunately, that paper got lost years ago but there were many things that did come true that could not have been a guess.
