It’s been a weird week for me. I was flying high last week after walking 5k and then the weather turned hot and muggy and I’m struggling to walk a mile. When it’s really hot and muggy I tend to get really bad headaches if I spend too much time outside in the heat and I’ve even had migraines but I’m not sure if they are caused by allergies to mold or whatever happens to be blooming at the moment. This is the time of year when everyone in the north is headed outside to be active, this is the time of year that I run from my air conditioned house to my air conditioned car to the air conditioned store. So what’s a girl who likes to walk to do about exercise?
We’ve started walking a shorter route half mile route around the neighborhood but I’m taking them in the morning and we’re walking together with them in the evenings. Max and Sadie LOVE their walk time and they get so upset if they don’t get to go. They cry like little children, they stare at us and they wait patiently but the heat takes a toll on them too. Being all black with fur about an inch and half long they overheat quickly. This works out better for them. I’ve missed about 12 days of walking in the past 9 months and that was due to extreme weather or injury. When it turns cooler again in the fall I plan on starting the C25K program because my goal is to run a 5k next year.
So what about my big bargain? What about my exercise? Ken and I went to a yard sale and we saw an elliptical sitting there. The people said they were moving and couldn’t take it with them, I asked them how much they were asking for it and he said $25 and I thought he was joking. I guess my shock made him think I wasn’t interested because then he said “I’ll give it to you for $20” It works perfectly. He had the paperwork for it and we found that it sold new for over $500 and its about a year and half old. It tells you your heart rate and it has a nifty little spot for a book and a water bottle….for $20!! That was my great find of the year. I had wanted one for a while now and even though we really don’t have the room for it, I made a spot for it in the garage. I used it today and with the fan going full blast overhead it wasn’t so bad. We really need a bigger place with a room just for workouts. Maybe next year, but for now I have the elliptical, an exercise bike, many workout CD's and a good plan to make them all work for me.

C25K is a great program. I am on week 8 and I am amazed at how far I've come. Good luck on your 5k. The summer blog party sounds like an awesome idea. I can't wait!
ReplyDeleteI take it you scored a treadmill? I was thinking you should get one a few paragraphs up, but then thought about the doggies...awesome deal! The best place for me to exercise is someplace cold. I don't like to get to hot, either.
ReplyDeleteand at HOME.
ReplyDeleteIm all about not having the excuse to not drive somewhere.
M.
thats a good bargain...
ReplyDeleteLooking forward for the summer blog party :)
Glad you've found a way to continue walking in the heat. I wouldn't last 5 minutes outside when it gets hot & muggy. My first time out of NZ we walked out of the airport at Miami into a sauna. It was like nothing I had ever experienced before and that was in February.
ReplyDeleteI'll be right there with you if it ever warms up! nice score with the elliptical... way to go!
ReplyDeleteWOW..what a great bargain....can I take you shopping with me.
ReplyDeleteHave a great day!!
WOW congrats on the new toy!! ENJOY!!!
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful week!

Here it's too hot in summer to work out outside as well. Great score on the elliptical!
ReplyDeleteI'm also working on a plan for a summer blog party.
I can't believe the deal you got on the ellitical! That's awesome.
ReplyDeleteIt was 108 here yesterday. Exercising outside it going to be put on hold 'til the fall. Now if I could find a deal on exercise equipment like you did.
Kudos on the 5k & scoring the elliptical at a COOL price! Looking forward to the Summer Parties!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fantastic deal. I have a treadmill so room for an elliptical isn't available but boy, I wish I had one of those instead!
ReplyDeleteI officially finished the C25K yesterday and loved it and know you will too. All at your own pace and slowly easing into it. Now I need to find a 5K to sign up for :)
I love yard sales! Lucky you getting that eliptical...it was meant to be, huh?
ReplyDeleteI can relate to the heat issue. We live outside of Houston, TX and it was 94 when I had to go for my run yesterday evening. It's only going to get hotter, so I'm really going to have to keep up on my water drinking.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the great bargain find, that's fantastic. The only thing better than losing weight is finding something valuable for a fraction of the price!

OMG... 20 dollars! WooHoo!
ReplyDeleteGood luck working on the C25K... I started with like 20 minutes on the elliptical and now do like 5k in 40 minutes and am ready to start doing the same on the treadmill and then finally outside. It's a great way to build up the stamina :)
Wow, what a bargain and somewhere in my town...hmm, dang I missed it :).
ReplyDeleteI wanted to go for a bike ride so badly last night. I went out to the garage to get my bike and the pump that I bought for the tires and couldn't find the darn thing. I am going to have to search for it today.
BTW, the Y is awesome. Every walk of life is in there. Yes, you have the thin barbie dolls (none of them where the thong workout suits, thank God) but you have a lot of retirees, a lot of overweight men and women and there are a few buff guys on occasion. Sometimes the eye candy is nice :) You could join and go with me in the evenings :P
yay on the deal!!! good for you!!
ReplyDeletelooking forward to wading my way through the Summer Parties lol!! Once i get the hang of things, i'll try my hand at hosting one myself next cycle!!
Wow awesome deal on the elliptical! It was nice reading this post - your strange dream post scared me! I couldn't think of a thing to say in response to that one! ROTFL
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean about the hot weather - I need to get my treadmill fixed.
Have a great week!
I wonder if my picture shows up now.. I am testing it here!
ReplyDeleteSkinny Inside - Its an elliptical, not a treadmill, I've clarified the post now :-)
ReplyDeleteSunny - sorry my dream scared you, I really shouldn't post those things, I think it freaks everyone out LOL
NAN - YAY your photo worked.
I''m not jealous. Not at all. Just because it's my favorite piece of equipment but I have to drive ALL THE WAY TO THE GYM to use it!
ReplyDeleteNo, I'm not jealous. :)
I am, however, also tremendously thrilled for your big score!
That is SOOOOO awesome about the elliptical!!! Congrats on your score :)

ReplyDeleteThanks for your comment.
ReplyDeleteStrangely enough I was going to change the song on my blog today but I didn't because it is a strong worded song hence choosing it.
you are right, I do need to listen to the song again. "I CAN DO THIS"....thanks!!
I've done it before, I can do it again but keep it off FOR GOOD this time!!
Hugs to you xx
I'm so excited for the Summer Blog Party. It's such a good idea!
ReplyDeleteAnd that's an awesome bargain... must've been a really nice surprise:)
wow that IS a bargain. better than a bargain! I would love to just chance upon something like that, you aer so lucky!
ReplyDeleteWOW! $20 for an elliptical! That is so awesome. I'm so jealous. I'm going to start hitting garage sales around here. One thing people do sell cheap is exercise equipment that takes up so much room.
ReplyDeleteSo glad you had fun at your pool party. :-)
Path to Health
What I would give to have a grapefruit tree in my backyard! Your posts always make me long for Florida. We went here all the time for winter vacations when first hubby was alive. I miss it so.
ReplyDeleteAnd starting the C25k in the fall - good for you! It took me a long time to get brave enough but I'm so glad I did!
And that garage sale find? AWESOME!
