Botox gone wrong, the male edition

Remember back in December when I had my scary day reaction courtesy of Publix GreenWise Sausage Links or veggie sausage? Last night it was Kens turn to have the Botox gone wrong face. I made marinated shrimp last night for dinner, something I’ve made dozens of times but it happened again and I’ve decided shrimp is now off our menu. Dinner was at 7pm and by 7:45 Ken had huge fish lips, tingling feet and hives. This has happened before when he has had shrimp chow mien from a local Asian restaurant but never from shrimp I have cooked at home before. They were frozen and I did all of the normal things, wash them, put them in marinade and prepare them as normal but he had a reaction. I no sooner gave him the Benadryl tablets when I started to itch and break out in hives too. UGH! Ken grew up eating a lot of seafood and never had a problem with shrimp until this past year. I can’t eat most fish because it makes me itch, now we can’t eat shrimp, what’s next? It looks like salmon is the only seafood left on our menu but I don’t plan on buying it in bulk for fear it will be next.

Making a note to stock up on Benadryl tablets.

It’s now June and I typically report my weight for the month on the first Tuesday of the month however something happened in May and I’ve spent the past week trying to define it in some way.

May had just as many ups as downs and maybe the whole rollercoaster of it all was just a bit overwhelming. I’ve decided that May is beyond defining and that I’m just going to move forward into June and let it be a fresh start for me and for everyone who needs one!

  1. Lucky for me I guess, that I don't like seafood. Wonder what happened. Is he ok?

  2. How scary!! My dd has had many allergic reaction, and we always have the Benadryl tongue dissolving strips handy. I keep them in the car, my purse, and at the babysitters. Fish is scary and with the exception of fishsticks, she has not gone there yet!!

  4. That is scary. I'm glad things turned out okay. Isn't it crazy how you can eat something all your life and never have problems with it and the suddenly an allergy develops. The body...it's such an amazing work of art isn't it?

  6. It's strange how something we have always been able to eat can cause such a reaction. Glad you were prepared & all is well! Yeah for June & fresh starts, I'm in!

  7. I hope your hubby is ok. I would hate to know that I was allergic to seafood. I love seafood, especially shrimp!

  9. That's strange about the shrimp....thank goodness it wasn't worse! I'd say stay away from it too from now on.

May has been a rocky month for me too. Even though I've exercised faithfully and followed my cto5k plan to the letter - I haven't been as diligent on my eating.

  14. Thta's very scary. If he hasn't had a problem with shrimp before now could it maybe be another ingredient that's setting off the reaction? (a spice or something in the marinade that may also have been in the chow mein?). Shrimp does seem the likeliest cause though.

    Hope he's ok now.

  15. I used to love shrimp, but now I find it repulsive. For no reason whatsoever, it disgusts me. Weird.

You know, sometimes you have to say to yourself, "I did the best I could under the circumstances." Sometimes we can achieve weight loss, other times we maintain, and still others we are doing well if we can do the least damage possible. Don't be so hard on yourself. You're doing great. I swear! Just being here and being honest is worlds away from where most of us started this journey. Hugs,

  17. Thanks for sharing about leaving May behind and getting on a fresh start because I am feeling EXACTLY the same way and it does feel good to know that others have similar frustrations. Here's to not throwing in the towel, though, like I previously would have . . . And here's to you too!!! And June for all of us.

  19. I hope that all is well with you both. I do know that a lot of people develop allergies as they grow older and that that may be what's happening with the shrimp.

On another note, if you have time stop by my blog for a garden party--you're invited!
