After listening to many, many, many people we decided to skip the wood floors in favor of laminate because:
- the dogs wont' be able to scratch them
- they have a 25 year warranty
- they were out of the wood we wanted
- laminate was 1/3 of the cost of wood
I think the durability factor was what sold me more than anything. Sadie and Max love to play, I don't want to discourage that and lets just say that Ken is a boy at times and is a bit rough and tumble on the house and I tend to drop things, heavy things.
With this project I've started a brand new diet and its pretty effective. Its called the house is the middle of remodel hell and I can't find the kitchen. Right now I know where the dog food and dog treats are but I haven't found myself that hungry just yet. The new diet also involves a lot of exercise but beware of mystery black and blue marks.
If Ken and I go missing in the next week or two be sure to tell the police that the blood they find all over the living room isn't because of foul play. Yes its a mixture of both of our blood, Ken ended up with a cut on the back of his hand and there is now blood splattered across the wall...I was going to repaint that section anyhow...and who knew toes bled so much when you drop wrought iron sconces on them? The good news is, my toe doesn't appear to be broken, the bad news is, I won't be able to put my feet into those new peep toe sandals any time soon. But hey there isn't a scratch on that new floor!! Yeah its flipflops for me baby! Tell the police they can find us in a hotel that has room service, laundry service, daily massages, a giant hot tub and dog walking services.
Oh I totally went there for a second fantasizing about that hotel....Meanwhile, back in reality, I'm headed out to buy more propane for the grill so I can at least grill meats and veggies. We will of course have to eat them with our fingers because the plates and silverware are in the kitchen. We aren't complete heathens, we've set up the coffee pot in the laundry room, we do have our priorities in order. Perhaps while I'm out I'll pick up paper plates and stop by Wendy's and tell them I've changed my mind about the plastic fork they tried to give me the other night with my salad...yeah, I'll take that fork and about a dozen more and napkins too, because yeah, the napkins are in the kitchen too.
I'm pretty sure I've lost a lot of weight on this new diet but since we're also putting new tile in the bathroom the scale is also a victim of the shove it someplace else, any place else for now method of home remodel.
Oh by the way, if you're stopping by, be sure to use the side garage door, there is a rather large chair wedged in the front entry way making it impossible to open the front door.
And how was YOUR weekend :-)
Sounds like you guys got a lot done. Good job :)
ReplyDeleteMy goodness, you've been busy. I've been on that same diet. I ended up losing a few kitchen items, lots of skin off various body parts, a chair, and my sanity!
ReplyDeleteYou are one busy busy lady! Happy Monday:)
ReplyDeleteI'll make sure to give you my address so you guys can tackle my house next!
ReplyDeletemy weekend was....about the same as yours! My parents put down their hardwood floors this weekend in their kitchen, and I (probably shouldn't have) volunteered to help them out! Their fridge is plugged up in their living room, their oven is on the back porch, and the pantry is totally empty. Using a nail gun is a lot of fun....
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry I can't answer your weekend question...I am WAY too tired after reading your post.
ReplyDeleteI need a nap!
OUCH! Talk about blood, sweat...and tears!?! You didnt mention tears, but I know if I dropped something like that on my toe, I would be in tears! Or maybe tears of happiness, when it was all over???? Oh well, I am sure it was worth it in the end. Right?? Happy Monday!
ReplyDeleteyou are too funny (Its called the house is the middle of remodel hell and I can't find the kitchen.) and methinks there's a book in there somewhere.
ReplyDeleteand great call on laminate.
love,
MizFit who did wood with a lab and a bullmastiff and REGRETTED it.
You will have to let me know how you like the laminate flooring. We are still trying to decide what kind of flooring to put in the kitchen at new place - ceramic, laminate or wood....
ReplyDeleteI know the feeling - remodeling a kitchen!! But somehow I still found the food!
Thanks so much for sharing tales of the remodel. I'm gathering great tips for when I begin my own remodel. :)
ReplyDeletelol sounds like an effective diet!
