The post with no title other than Monday

Happy Monday everyone! Another busy weekend here in paradise. I wonder if any of you have home remedies for sinus/allergy related headaches. I’m willing to try almost anything at this point. I can’t take regular medications for sinus pain because I’d end up very ill. I can take things like Claritin (but not Claritin D) and Zyrtec and I do take them however it’s just not doing enough. I’ve had this headache for nearly a month and enough already. It will feel better for a few days and then come back again. This isn’t a new problem. I have this problem every May but this year it seems to be worse. I know that we need a good rain to wash away all of the allergens but we’ve barely had any rain in a month and that is exacerbating my problem.

If you have any good home remedies for sinus pressure/pain, please let me know I’m willing to try almost anything. I say almost anything because when I mentioned the problem about a month ago I had an email suggesting a native American rain dance that involved dancing naked in my back yard around a fire…YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE and so do I, and no you can't stop by to observe, and if you do be sure to smile pretty for the surveillance cameras because they are everywhere, some you can't even see because we're crazy like that :-)

I know I need to keep pushing forward through the pain, I let myself backslide a bit this past month, that’s over! My healthy menu’s are planned for the week and I’m ready to make the most of this summer!

  1. My mom swears by Dr. Oz's Neti Pot treatment. She doesn't have what you'd call horrible sinus issues, but she's down for the count with every season change. Even when her sinuses aren't bothering her, she flushes out her sinus about once a week with this doo-hickey: http://www.squidoo.com/netipotnasalwash

  2. I use those blue cooling gel eye/face masks when I have a doozy of a headache. It looks a little silly, but I swear it helps.

My only other thought is to ask a pharmacist if they can recommend anything you haven't already tried. Sometimes those guys are a wealth of information.

    Feel better soon, hon.

  3. Aw I hope that you can find a decent remedy. Sorry, I've got nothing!

  4. I wish I had something for you too. Our weather here has been awful, we desperately need some rain! It's bad when I can see pollen all over the car, I don't remember it being a problem here a few years ago.

  5. I was just going to tell you about the neti pot but it looks like someone already did. Apparently it works great!

    Feel better soon.

  6. have you tried a nasal lavage? those are usually pretty good at relieving sinus pressure. or you may have a sinus infection.

  7. I'm sure the raindance would be a great way to get rid of it if only it would rain!

  9. I was going to suggest the Neti pot too. I read about it and am trying to get my husband to try it. If you do - let us know if it helps!

  10. I have had bad sinus issues too. Taking a steamy shower every morning to clear out the sinuses helps, followed by a saline nasal spray. The saline spray is supposed to soothe the tissues and rinse out the allergens. My allergist has me using local honey as well, daily (1 tsp or more) because that is alsosupposed to help allergies.

For the headache pain, the only thing that works for me is Excedrin. Good luck, feel better!

  11. Nasal sprays did it for me way better than pills.

  12. I tried the whole neti pot thing and it didn't do anything for me but some swear by it.

I have severe allergies and when they get bad I use a steroid nasal spray. I would rather avoid it but lack of sleep for months at a time just don't really work. I figure the spray is better than taking other drugs because it addresses the actual issue at the nose where it happens. The steroids are prescription only but you may want to check with your doc. I understand your misery all too well and hope you can get some relief. Hot showers and the old head under a towel over a steam bath help and if you break into a pollen induced sneezing fit, a really cold and thorough face wash can give a bit of relief.
