Colorful breakfast

Strawberries and blueberries for breakfast! I've always loved strawberries however I didn't think I liked blueberries because I had only tried them in things such as pancakes or muffins but after trying them fresh a few months ago I've been addicted! What a great addiction they are so healthy they are dubbed a "superfood" They have antioxidants and anti inflammatory and are said to be brain food. So only will they keep you looking young, they'll keep you smart. Gotta love those blueberries!

The weekend was painful. I have an old injury in my shoulder and its been inflamed and painful for a while now but this past weekend its really taken a turn for the worse. Through massage I've found some relief but its going to take a week or more of massage to get rid of this pain and huge lump in my back. For now, walking is the only exercise I'm able to do so I'm really watching my calories and trying to eat as many fresh and natural foods as I can and hope the results will follow.

If this pain doesn't clear up, my posts will probably be minimal this week because of the pain.

Don't forget to check out Friday's post for the latest on the Summer Blog Party!

  3. Yummy breakfast!

Major bummer though about the injury. Hang in there!

In addition to walking, what about some lower body strength training? Hold onto the back of a chair and do some front/back/side leg lifts? Or leg curls sitting in a chair (especially if you have any ankle weights). Do you have a step that you can step up and down on?

I know, easy for me to offer suggestions when I'm not the one hurting! Hope you mend quickly!

  9. You know...I never thought I liked fresh blueberries much either. There were good in cold cereal and baked in pancakes, pies or muffins - but right off the bush? Nope. But yesterday I was picking some (we have 5 bushes in the yard) and happened upon a really big fat round one. It was goooood! So the are I was popping them in my mouth as fast as I was picking them. We both learned something this week!

    Hope the shoulder mends soon!

  13. mmm... I wish I could love berries. Being a kid and doing farm work I was pretty much berried out... and even when I was wee little one of my earliest memories is going out behind the high school to the "wild spaces" and picking strawberries, bringing home bags and bags of the things to make jam. I was still picking berries (this time for the local farmers) when we moved out into farm country with the family. Now I just haven't been able to pop one in my mouth :(

  16. I had to have Dave restrain me, to stop from licking the screen. Those strawberries look delish!

I hope your shoulder gets better soon, too. Please take it easy this week & ice your shoulder, if you can. My dad had rotator cuff surgery earlier this year, and he said his shoulder pain was almost unbearable. He always said he couldn't sit or lay comfortably, and I bet you're feeling the same.

    Big, big, healing hugs.....

  17. If you like blueberries, try them frozen. I buy bagged frozen blueberries because if I buy fresh they get fuzzy before I remember to eat them. The frozen ones are delicious right out of the freezer. There are like tiny little blueberry popcicles! Yummy, refreshing, and healthy!

I love the strawberries and blueberries we're getting right now too! It makes me so happy to feed the kids such nutrious foods that they love and they can't get enough of.

  20. i love berries too! We eat them nearly every day. When I can't find fresh ones, I get the frozen. I make my kids smoothies with strawberries, blueberries, bananas, a little splenda, low-fat milk, and yogurt......sometimes I throw a little ground flax in there too. Berries have become my dessert when I have a sweet tooth.....I love to top with a little Reddi-whip and a sprinkle of cinnamon...so good!
