Yesterday I went to the doctor for the first time in a very long time. I had so much anxiety and mixed emotions but sitting down to talk to him was like sitting down to talk to someone I’ve known for a very long time. He actually spent time talking to me and asked questions to get to know me and find out what my life was like and how I lived my life. The office staff was wonderful too. I have this little method of picking a new doctor when I don’t have a personal recommendation. I call the office and if the person who answers the phone is in a good mood, chances are the doctor will be in a good mood. If they are cranky it’s usually a miserable doctor making them cranky. The woman who answered the phone with a cheerful voice was even more cheerful in person. I’m getting blood work done next week and I’ll wait for the results to see what’s going on. He said my thyroid felt enlarged so I’ll be curious to see what the results are from that.
I made a HUGE pot of chicken barley veggie soup for dinner yesterday and it was such a large pot of soup we’re having it again for dinner tonight. It’s very easy to make and low in calories at 150 calories per 1 ½ cup serving. 1 ½ cups might not sound a lot but this is more like a stew than a soup, its thick, rich and filling. This would be great to make on the weekend and freeze for weekday lunches or quick dinners. You can view the recipe for Chicken Barley Veggie Soup here.
And finally as promised a weigh in!
Current week: MINUS 1 pound
Total for 2009: 10.5 pounds
YAY!
You're doing so well! And with a sore shoulder to boot...
ReplyDeleteI'm also very picky when it comes to doctors. I haven't been in two years! To be fair, there's nothing really bothering me right now. When I get my tax rebate, hopefully soon, I'm going for a gynaecological exam, because it's time.
All the best for the week ahead!
I agree with Hanlie, you're doing AWESOME! Over 10 pounds gone in 2009? Keep up the great work:)
ReplyDeleteGood job!
ReplyDelete2009 is starting strong for you!
Hope the blood work results come back good :-)
Im so so glad yesterday was a good experience as well.
ReplyDeleteMiz.
Congrats on losing another pound! 10.5 pounds down so far in 2009 is great! I wish I'd lost that much since Jan. 1st!
ReplyDeleteOne and a half cup sounds huge for soup... I love chicken barley.
ReplyDeleteIf you like soup, I've got a great recipe for vegetable soup (very low cal stuff, counts as 0 points if you're on ww, but I dont know the exact nutritionals...)
2 cup(s) escarole, chopped
2 medium garlic clove(s), minced
1 cup(s) onion(s), chopped
2 cup(s) spinach, baby leaves
2 small zucchini, cubed
1 medium sweet red pepper, chopped
6 cup(s) vegetable broth
28 oz canned diced tomatoes, preferably fire-roasted
1/4 small crushed red pepper flakes
2 tsp thyme, fresh, finely chopped
1 tsp fresh oregano, finely chopped
3/4 tsp table salt
1/4 tsp black pepper
1/4 cup(s) parsley, fresh, chopped
1/4 cup(s) basil, fresh, leaves
Put escarole, garlic, onions, spinach, zucchini, red pepper, fennel, vegetable broth, diced tomatoes, red pepper flakes, thyme and oregano into a large soup pot. Cover and bring to a boil over high heat. Reduce heat to low, and simmer, partly covered, for about 10 minutes.
Stir in salt, black pepper, parsley and basil. Serve. Yields about 1 cup per serving.
Congrats on the weight loss! Keep it up!
ReplyDeletethanks everyone!
ReplyDeleteLynn that soup sounds fabulous! I'm adding it to my list!
The soup sounds fab! Thanks and congrats on the loss!
ReplyDeleteYour doctor is gold. Very few these days take the time and energy to be present and interested.
ReplyDeleteWay to go on the weigh in!!!
Mmm soup. I like your thinking about choosing a doctor- hope that I sound cheery enough that people choose the clinic I work at too:) So good that you've found a great doctor.
ReplyDeleteYou are doing great! Good for you for going to the doctor and your loss so far this month! I am lucky, my doctor was randomly assigned but I love her and she is so understanding and really listens to me. She even complimented me on my weight loss last time instead of the regular doctors I have had that always give me the 'you need to lose wieght' speech.
ReplyDeleteI hope your results are good. :)
10 pounds in this year alone?
ReplyDeleteYou're on fire. Keep it up. x
such great news!!!!!!!!!!!!! And the soup........yummy!
ReplyDelete10 pounds, way to go! I recently found a doctor like that, randomly on the internet I found him. Everyone there was just so friendly! Ive been dealing with thyroid issues for the last 3 years, particularly a enlarged thyroid. Once you get your results if you have any questions, please dont hesitate :)
ReplyDeleteCongrats on another pound tossed!!!
