Friday and random fever induced babble

So welcome to my Friday post. Honestly I don't even think I have any babble in me today because I'm feeling pretty miserable. It started a few days ago and its much much worse today. Its a tooth problem that is so bad its making my ear hurt....yes I'm headed to the dentist this morning.

Why did it get so bad? Because I'm a complete chicken when it comes to going to the dentist. When you know you need a lot of work done and the cost of that work scares the crap out of you and you want them to work on the part where you feel needs the most attention and they want to work on cosmetic stuff and sell you a $400 tooth brush and $89 toothpaste (I'm not kidding) it kind of makes you jaded about going to the dentist. The past two dentists I've tried to go to have been like that, the dental hygienists are the gate keeper and you have to get past them to get to the dentist. Because I wouldn't be bullied by the dental hygienist I left and didn't go back.

Fortunately our new insurance has more flexibility with what dentist you can visit and while they pay a mere $1000 per year, its a $1000 I don't have to pay. I have a feeling my cost is going to top $12,000 for the work I need done....it sucks being poor financially challenged.

My diet of soft foods this week and especially lasts nights sodium rich soft food has done a number on the scale and while I'm shocked and completely embarrassed by the number I'm posting it anyhow because I promised at the beginning of the year I would post my weekly weigh in and I already took one week off this month.

This week: PLUS 4 pounds  (gasp...horrrrrrrror)

Total for 2009: 15.2

Dear Scale,

I'm totally kicking your ass next week.

Love,
Me

  1. Good for you for holding yourself accountable. It probably is water weight from the extra sodium. Hope you get a huge loss next week.

  2. Wow, your dentist tries to sell you toothbrushes & paste? Yikes!

I hope your dental visit is quick and painless, and without the hard sell.

  3. I hope you start feeling much much better! Like Seashore said, I hope your visit to the Denist is quick and painless! At least for me, these things are never as bad once they are over with than I actually imagined (much like the vet visits for Max & Sadie!)

The scale will work with you again once things get settled down, keep doing the best you can :)

  4. I survived the dentist and for picking a new dentist at random from a list of insurance company approved doctors...I picked a WINNER!!

The staff was amazing, the doctor was awesome, I won't neglect my teeth in the future for fear of being treated poorly.

I'm going back on Monday and Friday, I think this is the start of a very long, LONG relationship to get my teeth back to where they need to be.

  5. I was just going to say keep looking, because good dentists are out there.

I went to 3 HORRIBLE MEAN FREAKs and then didn't even try for 7 years. I paid BIGTIME, but I love my dentist now (even though he had to do about $10K worth of catch up repair work.)

I am so glad you finally found a good one too.

  6. Glad to see I didnt have to whip out the penguins this week *grin* Besides they are busy playing in the 5 inches of snow we got last night ( did I mention is 7 *sigh* ).

They have commercials on here about how they take the pain out of seeing the dentist. I dont fear the pain of the work being done I fear the pain to my pocket book when said work is done. Ours plays $1500. Ever tried getting ANYTHING done with your teeth for $1500 or less? Nope.. me either *sigh*.

    *huggles*
    =0)

  7. I love dentists and dental hygienists who /don't/ try to make you feel guilty. Maybe they should teach that in dental school.

  10. dont fret about the weight you know its sodium.. I have gotten really careful about the sodium issue.. in one day I gained 5 pounds because I had a frozen meal.. that much to my chagrin ( I later found out ) had over 900 mil of sodium in it.. ONE THING.. caused that gain.. 2 days later I was down 5 plus 1 .. 5 pounds water weight and 1 real pound because I started watching the sodium content of what I was eating.. I had no idea I had problems with that.. and apparently I am a great water retainer.. SO pish pash on the pounds.. you will get them off in a blink.. and like you said you will kick ass next week.. ohhh and much luck with the dental situation.. been there done that and still paying..

  11. Oh... I hope things went well at the Dentist's office! I hate going to the dentist, too... mostly because I'm always afraid I won't fit in the chair or I will make a total idiot out of myself trying to get on and off the chair!

Don't worry about the 4 lb. gain. Salty foods do that every time. I'm just so proud of your for posting your weigh-in results! That is really an NSV, you know? You made up your mind that you're going to be accountable... and you were! Good for you, Diana!

And congrats on your weight loss so far! 15 lbs. is a lot of weight... and that is just the beginning! Keep up the good work! :)

Oh... I just read your comment! Things DID go well at the dentist's! Yippee!

  12. You TELL that scale who's boss! :)

I'm sorry you're not feeling good, I hope you can get the tooth business sorted out. It's SO important to have a good dentist and hygienist... once I had a different hygienist than my usual one and it was a horrible experience. Never want that to happen again.

  13. I went to the dentist last week and have to return next week ;) Mine is so not like that. We can also make payments if we have to. Thank God all my work is under $1000.

I would love to go back for ZOOM......the professional whitening :) for my b-day ;)

Kudos to you for your accountability! I think pain can hinder weight loss due to the stress it puts us under.

You can totally kick that scale into a new decade next week!

  15. Hope your tooth problem gets fixed soon! Don't stress over the gain, I agree that it's probably water retention from the sodium. Shake it off and try again!

  17. I'm sorry you are feling bad. It looks like the flu is hitting a lot of people pretty hard this year. Got me a couple of weeks ago. :(

Don't stress about that nasty scale. I'm thinking of replacing my scale with one that gives me better numbers. Maybe I should invent the dieter friendly scale: only shows weight losses. :)
    Hang in there, chick.
