the things we do for love

I had to take Sadie and Max to the vet recently to get their booster shots. Going to the vet has been a very traumatic process since the time we took them there for their "operations" I'd be upset if I woke up missing my "bits" too and every time they go there someone wants to poke, prod or jab them with something so yes, stressful indeed for the pampered pooches.

I've told you before about their dislike of the vet but I don't think I've ever told you just how badly they behave and how much stress it causes me. Max is typically very good. Sadie on the other hand, she goes absolutely apeshit...sorry there is no other word and this time I have proof.

This is my happy little Max....what a face!
And this is my sweet Sadie...that look!

Sorry in advance that I held the cell phone the wrong way and they are sideways but they are more for the sound than the video....

Max is first and he's sitting on the bench next to me and you can hear Sadie in the background...

That was NOTHING....wait til you see a little sample of Sadie or as we like to call her now, Sadie the howling hound dog

and now try putting up with this for 90 minutes because an emergency came in and you had to wait.

No honey, I won't have dinner ready when you get home. My head will be jammed between the pillows for the next week trying to erase the vet visit from my head.

  1. LOL, she really is milking it for all it's worth! My cat got such a fright she jumped up from the desk and is now washing herself a safe distance away!

  2. Oh poor doggies, how could you do this to them?! :) Have you tried doing their appts at different days/times? Maybe they're feeding off each others anxieties? Just a thought. My dog Sam would cower whenever I took him to the vet.

  3. They act just like I do when I have to have blood drawn or an IV put in place!

  4. Pups are so adorable. Wish I could watch the videos but dial up just won't allow it. My two hate the vet for the same reason too.

  5. So far my Kermit is okay at the vets.. then again he's only 4 1/2 months old and has yet to get his bits cut off. I'm sure things will change once that happens!

  6. AWWWWWWWW poor things!! Bear Bear loves the vet. Of course he is not the smartest egg on the planet either ( love him but WOW ). You would think he would hate it though and me for that matter for all he has to go through in a day. Shots twice a day, poked for blood all the time, only gets food a certian times, has to take pills for arthritis. Poor guy you would think he would be a total grouch but nope lol he happily lives through it all with a slobbery kiss to every one around him.

    Hope next trip goes better!

  7. My poor dog listens to this sort of thing every time she goes to the vet. It confirms her opinion that in the other examining rooms, the dogs are being tortured.
Poor you! At least you know you're not the only owner who has to deal with this reaction.

  8. Unfortunately I can't leave one at home and take the other, I left Sadie home alone for five minutes once and we set up the video camera...distressing! Very distressing.

When Max was sick at Christmas time and he had to go to the vets, I made my sister come with us and she waited in the car with Sadie and she did the same thing, HOWLING! The next day my sister stayed at the house with Sadie and more of the same. As much as she likes to pick on Max, she hates when someone tries to take HER Maxie away.

Max does okay on his own but is like a small child tugging on Mommas coat tail saying "hold me" and he wants me to pick him up.

I know, its my fault they are so attached to me and so spoiled. I deserved the headache.

  9. Thanks for the reminder of why I don't have pets. They are lovely dogs and I can tell very much loved.

  10. Oh poor babies! That breaks my heart! I find that when I take the dogs separately they are so much better. My male lab has been to the vet SOOO many times that he is great now. But when the female lab is there (who is much hyper/less prone to listening) she's crazy stressed and he feeds off of her. I hate taking them to the vet because they are so sad!

  12. I don't think it's your fault if they howl! Each dog has their own way of expressing their anxiety, same as humans. My dog paces and does a lot of silent pleading.

I can't resist spoiling my dog a little -- there are so many dogs out there who could use a little spoiling, I try to make up for their neglect by making sure Her Ladyship knows she's loved.

  13. Heh aww that would be frustrating! Luckily the vet clinic where I work at doesn't have too much howling and barking going on... think I'd start getting lots of headaches very quickly!

  15. Awww shampies poor doggie. They look so friendly and cuddly. My oldest son wanted to know why your doggie was crying. I told him and he said shame poor doggie, I hope the doctor gives her a sweetie like my doctor gives me. That will make her all better mommy. Lol he comes to me again and says mommy what do you call a dog doctor, so when I proceeded to tell him, he says to me, no silly, you call them a dogtor, not a doctor.

  16. Don't they just make you feel awful? :)

My cat doesn't mind the vet so much, but we tried to take her to the pet hotel to test it out to see if she could use it the next time we go on vacation and she didn't like that at all and hissed and scratched and now we are blacklisted.

I am trying to spoil the cat and she just doesn't get it!

If only the vet, etc could see them at home :)
