Motivating Upbeat Workout Mix

Last year I got this ipod thing and I've yet to load a single song onto it. Ken is threatening to borrow it and never give it back or worse, sell it on ebay. I have to admit that singing in my head while I walk is getting sort of boring and I think the guppers are embarrased by my singing so its time to load up the ipod with a good mix of fast paced or motivating workout songs.

Please please please share your favorites!

It can be old or new, any genre. Bring it on!

  2. Like your blog a lot! When I was losing all my weight mp3's weren't around, so I had to lug around my clunky cassette tape player!

Anyway, these days with my so small its almost invisible mp3 player, I actualy like to listen to podcasts from public radio broadcasts because that's the only time I get a chance to.

  6. Oh, you will absolutely love your ipod! I never even wanted one, but hubby got me one for Christmas last year. Once I got music on it and learned how to use it, I loved it. Not only for exercise, but for everything else I'm doing while hubby watches something boring on TV.

I have a a mix of upbeat music from Rod Stewart, Brooks & Dunn, Aerosmith, 50's and 60's oldies, Disco, a little bit of a lot of things. It will hold a ton of stuff.

I haven't created any seperate lists yet. I just put mine on shuffle and let it go. I can't help moving, even if it's just my head or shoulders, when it's on.

    Enjoy! :)

  7. I was slow to come into the ipod world too. But now that I have mine I love it. It's like a portable jukebox. I have hundreds of songs on mine, however, I loaded by the album (cd) and I don't always listen or like every song on the cd's so I am going to go through and delete some. You'll love it, just take the time to load it up.

  10. I absolutely could not live without my iPod - It is my life (sad sad I know...).
One of my favorite things to listen to while working out is Podcasts from this guy http://www.djsteveboy.com/mixes.html. I use his Podrunner intervals for my Learning to Run sessions and the Podrunner tunes for when I'm on the treadmill/walking and I choose the bpm based on how fast I want to go.

  15. I created a whole playlist for my iPod (that I resisted even owning until about 6 months ago.) It's my workout playlist, and my exercise is dancing to it every day; half hour before lunch, and a half hour before dinner. Here's the list:

  23. Some great suggestions here!

It's so personal though. What I do is go to iTunes, and then on the music menu, find "iMIx". Once there, you can search for words like "cardio" or "workout" or "running" or "spinning". Then you get a bunch of folks workout playlists and can preview each song for 30 seconds and get a sense of the ones you like. Sometimes you find someone who has really similar taste to yours and you can get a bunch of songs at once.

    Good luck getting some tunes!

  25. I listen to books on tape... this way I can be lazy and active at the same time. I must say though your readers gave you some impressive lists of music, maybe I might just have to change my habits.

  26. Hi, I actually just stopped by to steal some ideas! If you like something a bit "different" than the same old workout songs, my fave is "Halycon" by Chicane. It's in the electronica arena, it has no words, but it's lovely. It builds up and really gets me going. It's over eight minutes long, so I usually use it for the very last mile on my run, to really give me the boost I need to get it done as fast as possible!

  27. I Gotta Feeling (Black Eyes Peas)
    American Boy (Estelle)
    Just Fine (Mary J Blige)
    Triveni (Rodrigo Y Gabriela)
    Black Betty (Ram Jam)
    Don't Stop the Music (Rihanna)
    Together Again (Janet Jackson)

I came on here to get a few ideas for my own workout- and loved this! So I'll add a few from my workout playlist. Thanks!
