are we there yet?

I've been on quite a few road trips in my life but I've never traveled with pets. Our vacation was only 560 miles each way but with two dogs our journey from Florida to North Carolina felt like an eternity.

When you live in Florida, 1/2 mile from the Gulf of Mexico and all of the tourist are headed to the beach it only makes sense to head north to the Mountains. We wanted a very quiet and low key vacation and we thought we'd end up somewhere local but when the chance to stay in a 2 bedroom cabin on a mountainside in North Carolina came along, we jumped at the opportunity. Of course I stressed WAY too much and thankfully the only thing that went wrong was the air conditioner quit working. Hubs was able to buy a DIY refill from the auto parts store and refill it so we had a cool drive home.

On the recommendation of our vet we gave the dogs an over the counter medication and the lowest dosage suitable for their body weight. I wanted them relaxed, not comatose so I erred on the side of caution. The low dose for Max was just fine but for Sadie, not even close. 560 miles of whimpering and repeating the most repeated phrase...SADIE IN THE BACK!

Over and over again she'd put her front paws on the center console and try to worm her way to the lap of the front passenger. Its not that Max didn't try too, he was just far more subtle and sneaky in his attempts. By the end of the trip we only needed to say her name and she'd head to the back seat in a huff.

Max was a good boy!

And what was it all for? MOUNTAINS!!!

Our first glimpse of the mountains.
